Salute to John Deere Collector Duane Larson,
Today, Wednesday, July 8, 2009, Duane Larson, age 65, passed away in Knoxville, TN after a long battle with cancer. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Duane was a bright star in the John Deere antique two-cylinder hobby. He was an extraordinary researcher, restorer and collector whose career as a nuclear physicist carried over to his two-cylinder tractor hobby. He was precise, thorough and accurate in all his research be it wheels, spark plugs, carburetor, magnetos, bearing conversion and anything else related to John Deere two-cylinder tractors. Recently, Duane and his wife, Nancy, put over 1900 pages of information on a CD addressing a variety of subjects including Field Service Bulletins, Service Hints for L & LA tractors, Carburetor & Magneto Application Charts, and his many workshop presentations over the years at the "Gathering of the Green."
Duane Larson was an early supporter and devotee of the "Gathering of the Green." He was a workshop leader and drop-in session leader at all "Gathering" conferences, often addressing multiple topics. Conference attendees were aware his of extensive research, hands-on experience, and knowledge; hence his workshops were always at full capacity with people waiting outside for a chance to find a seat. Duane would frequently call or e-mail "Gathering" planners with suggestions for workshop topics, speakers and ways to improve the offerings.
The hobby, in general, and the "Gathering of the Green" specifically, will sincerely miss Duane Larson, a gentleman, scholar and John Deere two-cylinder expert. We extend our sincere sympathy to Nancy and to all of Duane's family.
Here is Nancy Larson's contact information should you wish to send her a card or drop her a line.
